Star Quest I is a very impressive, feature-rich shareware space combat/adventure sim that could easily compete with mid-90s commercial titles. Boasting fully textured yet fast 3D engine, it offers an interesting blend of space combat and adventure.

There is no single-player campaign, instead the game comes with a series of preset scenarios that vary from attack and defense missions to target practice and even peaceful racing in space. In more advanced scenarios, the player does not only pilot own ship but also has AI-controlled wingmen to aid in battling enemy forces.

Star Quest I was originally sold as shareware, with the unregistered version offering just a handful of scenarios and only half of the game's difficulty settings. In December 2025, author Paul Lauzon made the full version available under the pay what you want model at itch. io (please see the links section below).
