Spielbeschreibung

Dark Forces was LucasArts' response to the DOOM craze. Rumour holds it that the game's development was prompted by several Star Wars-themed WADs. The result is very similar, yet vastly different from DOOM.

Step in the boots of Kyle Katarn, former Imperial officer turned mercenary working for the Rebel Alliance. Taking orders directly from Mon Mothma, you will embark on a series of exciting and dangerous missions across the Galaxy far, far away in an attempt to thwart the Empire's plans to create a new, deadly superweapon...

Dark Forces combines classic DOOM gameplay with distinct and familiar vibes of the Star Wars universe, plunging the player into cinematic action, with every mission different from the rest. The game does not quite reach the same level of realism as would Duke Nukem 3D about a year later, but the environments are far more detailed and grounded than most of locations in DOOM. In one mission, you explore a sewer complex in search of an obscure Imperial engineer, in another you sneak around a heavily-guarded detention facility to rescue a prisoner, and so forth. No two missions take place on the same world or look similar.

The music and sound effects in this game are worth of special mention, as they both make a great contribution to maintaining the distinct Star Wars feel that every fan of the original trilogy will appreciate.

The playable demo offers a pre-release version of the first level in the full game, where you steal the Death Star plans, and also includes two cutscenes. This version of the level will greatly reward curiosity and exploration, as the secret areas contain a few fun surprises not found in the retail release...
